Update on film

Image
I have no done all my sound, sound effects, colour, and titles for my film. I am going to come back to it was fresh eyes so that I can polish it further.

Short film Pre Production.

Image
The night before filming I charged up all my batteries for my drone, camera and zoom mic. I then contacted my actors (Adrian and Benedict) to make sure they were ready and what time we needed to meet.  I woke up at 6:30 for the shoot to get my opening and closing shots using the drone. Below are some snap shots of the drone footage. I have shown the edited and raw shots to show how I used colour grading and editing to enhance the video I also cropped and reversed the video too. Pre-production photos

Before shooting my film I took every shot and shot idea and took a picture of it to see if it worked and if the shot looked good. Below are all the images I took along with my shot list for the day:

Story Board and Narrative Arch

Image
While developing my story I started off creating a simple narrative arch, and then a photo narrative line and then a drawn story board. Doing this all helped me develop my story and have a visual idea for what my film is going to look like. After this I an going to do a photograph story board. This will help me figure out how to shoot each shot and if they work.

The Operator Short film

Image
The film shows this loop like format as the film only shows a small section of her job.  The film is impactful as we have an emotional relationship with Gemma and the call operator However as the film ends we hear the call operator take in a deep breath as we know she has to do this all over again. This shifts our emotional response more towards her as we see just a small part of what trauma she has to go through everyday. Clear camera movement and moody lighting gives a very cinematic look to the film while also keeping the audience engaged. Operator from Yann Heckmann on Vimeo .

Short film - OVER - response

Image
While watching this film I firstly wasn't too sure what was going on. I then pieced it together that the film was filmed in reverse. I really enjoyed the minimal dialogue in the film and the way that the simplicity of the shots and how they are all very wide long shots. The story feels very slow however this is used to juxtapose the shock of the man falling from the sky.

Film inspiration

Image
After scrolling across Pinterest, instagram and TikTok a few short film, shots, websites, editing techniques and colour LUTs came to me.  One website which I think is very underestimated and incredibly useful and well put together is "Eye Candy" this website puts thousands of Gifs of shots and gives breakdowns to hot videos and how they were put together.  One director who has significantly impacted my ideas for my short film is Paul Trillo and his style, I feel like this is the style I am aiming for with that sort of sound quality. I would really like to use this snorcami on Jimmy during his morning routine montage, to achieve this effect I think I may need to have a slight fish eye tense on the camera. I would also like to use this POV shot looking up through a bag after David collects all his goods from around the house. Match cuts of him loading up the bag up with beers, snacks, plants, etc. Music playing with this part - Stuck In The Middle...

Jondra Films

I came across these two brothers who make short films, I really liked their style and think it would suit my short film quite well. I also found a song which  I would like to include in my short film. Its called: QKThr.

Chosen Idea

Image
THE IDEA I HAVE CHOSEN IS THE INVISIBLE INTRUDER I went with this idea as the majority of my class seemed to have a positive reaction to the idea after I presented it. I also chose it as it was very different from everyone else's film as it was the only comedy genre, light hearted film. The film is also very doable as it is set in on location with 2 or possible 3 actors. Below I have attached my treatment:

Initial idea presentation

Image
Recently I have come up with five ideas for my short film. In my presentation I further developed three of these five ideas. I included lots of pictures which inspired me alongside some photographers and film directors. I have now presented to my class last week, and the feedback from my class was very positive with the majority of them really liking my second idea about a homeless man and a blind home owner. They also really liked my third idea however many of them said to develop it further and give a more clear cut narrative and plot.  Taking feedback after presenting my initial idea about “A middle aged single man who seems to have no friends or family. He lives in London living a very basic life working in the city. He follows the same basic routine and does not seem to have a desire for anything more complex or challenging in his life. However one day he finds himself thinking about what could have been and how he has never lived life to the fullest finds himself fantasying a...
